Tidalwave CEO Diane Yu Named a HousingWire Vanguard for the Second Year in a Row

Tidalwave CEO Diane Yu has been named a 2026 HousingWire Vanguard, marking her second consecutive year on the list. The Vanguards recognize 100 executives across mortgage, real estate, and homebuilding whose leadership is shaping the housing economy, selected by HousingWire's editorial team alongside an independent panel of industry professionals.

Diane Yu built a career developing technology that performs in complex production environments. After co-founding FreeWheel, which Comcast acquired for approximately $400 million, she served as chief technology officer of Comcast’s advertising business and Better.com before launching Tidalwave to modernize mortgage origination.

In 18 months, Yu took Tidalwave from an idea to production with lenders including D.R. Horton, Lennar Mortgage, Flat Branch Home Loans and Contour Mortgage. In November 2025, she closed a $22 million Series A with D.R. Horton participating as both an investor and customer.

Yu has prioritized accuracy and compliance in developing SOLO, Tidalwave’s AI mortgage agent. In March 2026, Tidalwave and Columbia University’s DAPLab released a benchmark evaluating AI performance across 90 questions and 10 borrower scenarios. SOLO scored 84% overall, compared with 71% for Anthropic’s Claude 4.5, and achieved 95% accuracy on yes-or-no compliance checks, compared with 42%.

Yu launched SOLO Assist, providing around-the-clock mortgage guidance in more than 30 languages. The solution embeds translated support directly into origination workflows, expanding access for limited-English-proficient borrowers without relying solely on staff availability.

Tidalwave is on pace to interact with approximately 200,000 loans annually. By combining independently evaluated accuracy, multilingual accessibility and direct integrations with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac systems, Yu is demonstrating how agentic AI can responsibly automate mortgage work while expanding access to homeownership.
